Sports

Sporting activities are an important aspect of our school curriculum and students are encouraged to participate at all levels. Our school offers a variety of popular sports both during physical education lessons and during the two interschool sport seasons.

Access to our school heated pool provides the opportunity for all students to develop and improve their swimming skills, style and performance. Swimming lessons are the focus of all physical education lessons during the summer months, terms 1 and 4. During the cooler months, physical education lessons focus on the development of ball skills, hand-eye coordination, major game and athletic skills.

During the inter-school sport season students can elect to participate in a range of sports including cricket, softball, tennis, water polo, basketball, soccer, touch football and AFL.  Students in Years 5 and 6, who do not qualify for school sport teams, participate in a school based sporting competition.

Indooroopilly State School holds a number of annual sporting events including a cross country carnival, swimming carnival, and the school athletics carnival held in the grounds of the University of Queensland. Many of our students achieve an extremely high standard in these events and advance to higher levels of competition at district, state and national finals.

Physical Education

At Indooroopilly State School our goal in physical education is to provide students with knowledge, skills, values and the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Our physical education teacher provides an outstanding physical education program for students in all classes as well as an extensive range of extra curricular programs.

Activities in the physical education program are designed to promote physical fitness, to develop motor skills and the knowledge and understanding of rules, concepts, and strategies. Students learn to work as part of a team, or as an individual, in a wide variety of sports and activities, catered for their development. The program provides students with knowledge, skills, values and the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Our physical education teacher is also trained to coach teams for interschool sport competitions, district trials, cross country and athletics carnivals.
