Students should maintain regular attendance at school to benefit from the quality educational program we provide.
- Attend each school day, unless the student is unwell or there is a reasonable excuse for their absence.
- Arrive at school on time, ideally between 8:30am and 8:45am. Students should line up for class when the 8:55am bell rings. Class rolls are marked as soon as the teacher welcomes the students into the classroom. Students arriving after the roll is marked must visit the Administration office to collect a late pass. Teaching commences at 9:00am
- Arrange appointments outside of school hours. If this is not possible, please sign your student in/out at the Administration office before going to class. Teachers must be handed a late pass/early departure ticket.
- Align family holidays and elective travel with school holidays. There are 12 weeks of school holidays per year.
If your student will be absent or late to school please advise the school's administration via QParents of the reason for absence. If you can't access your QParents account please phone the Absence Line 3327 2360 and leave a clear and concise voice message. To ensure student safety it is mandatory for schools to contact families each day if there is an unexplained absence. If you forget to advise the school of an absence a text message will be sent requesting a reply with the reason for absence.
Family holidays and elective travel should be planned during the 12 weeks of scheduled school holidays. Prolonged absences during school for non-essential reasons should be avoided. Please consult with your class teacher around the schedule of teaching, learning and assessment and refer to the 2025 State School Calendar when planning family holidays or elective travel-https://education.qld.gov.au/about/Documents/school-calendar.pdf
Written notification must be provided with a reasonable explanation for all extended absences.
When applying for an exemption from compulsory schooling it is recommended to minimise the duration of the proposed absence and not commit to plans before the Principal has considered your application. Parents are requested to explain the essential nature and reason for the duration of any proposed extended absences during school term; provide supporting evidence of the circumstances with their application for exemption; and provide copies of any travel bookings to confirm the date the student is expected to return to school.
Please note that during an exemption period the school is exempt from providing an educational program. When considering a prolonged absence parents should be aware of the following :
- The teaching model provided by ISS is face to face, in-person learning that requires students to be in attendance at school; there is no remote learning alternative.
- Class teachers do not prepare coursework or provide learning materials for students on extended absences.
- Online resources in regular use by our students may not be accessible from overseas locations eg OneNote, TEAMS, student email and third party platforms.
- Assessments are scheduled for each year level cohort after all curriculum content is delivered and learning is consolidated.
- If students are absent during assessment periods it may be appropriate to provide an N rating on the student's report card which denotes "Insufficient evidence to make a judgment."
